Journal 37 - Wood covers with lots of beads

Finished this journal yesterday. Wood covers gouged at the edges to give a worn appearance. Lots of wood beads mixed with handmade beads in subtle earthy colors. The pages or signatures are cleverly spaced with beads so you have lots of room for your book to expand when you add photos, clippings and the like. This journal would be lovely on display on a coffee table. The 16 strings of beads feel lovely in your hands and are nice to play with. A very special journal for a very special person.

Journal 35 Pine timber covers decorated with rough fabric & soft yarn.

Soft fibers, stiff hard fabric and wood beads decorate the natural pine timber covers of this unusual journal. The edges of the covers have been gouged to make them look old and worn then they were antiqued and then finished with a bees wax product. Simple but effective. The spine cords are crossed at the back of the book. This makes the book hold firm and keeps it from being floppy. Also provides added strength. The pages will open flat for sketching writing or pasting. A lovely decorative journal for someone very special..

The particular method of stitching that I use to bind most of my journals evolved from the coptic stitch and involves sewing on cords leaving an open spine. This allows each book to open completely flat which is a wonderful feature when writing, gluing or sketching and also strengthens the spine.

This book has 224 pages.
Book measures 24cm X 12.5cm
Approximately 9.5" x 4.75"
This book is numbered and signed

COUNTING PAGES:
When I list the number of pages in a book, I am referring to one side of each leaf. For example, in a book with numbered pages, Page 17 would be on one side of the leaf or piece of paper, Page 18 on the other side. Therefore, a book with 224 pages would have 112 leaves.

As a book artist, my dream is to produce books of the highest quality. All my journals are hand made and many of the materials used in their design are also handmade. Great love and care goes into the making of each book, so they make wonderful gifts that would be treasured forever.

Whatever use you choose for these gorgeous books, wether as a gift or for personal use, the attention to detail and exquisite design will make anyone's calligraphy or scribbles much more than special.
