Handmade Motherboard Journal....

Journal #61 Rag Doll on Front Cover

JOURNAL #61 - This is a OAK Hand Stitched Journal and there is not another one exactly like it on the planet! ...This blank page journal is hand crafted by Australian Book Artist Jean Hall and is also Signed and Numbered by Jean.

The covers of this adorable journal are cut from plywood The cover panel is covered with off-white colored upolstery fabric. ...I also attached the cutest little rag doll to the cover. The doll's head and body are attached firmly to the cover but her arms and legs are movable. Her tubular bead socks and sleaves are royal blue with just a hint of sparkle.
I also added some red and royal blue pony beads to the ends of the jute string spine cords (6 cords), and two small felt hearts ... one red and one royal blue.
Spine cords are crossed at the back for added strength (as show in the illustration below).

The unique method of stitching that I use to bind my journals evolved from the coptic stitch
and involves stitching on cords leaving an open spine.
This allows each book to open comfortably flat.
This is a wonderful feature when writing, gluing or sketching and also makes the spine stronger.

Writing in a gratitude journal has created amazing transformation for millions of people.

This type of journaling helps you focus on all of the blessings in your life, and is also a great way to attract more of those good things to you. Appreciation of what you already have is essential in attracting more of what you want.

Gratitude journals also help maintain a positive attitude, because you train your mind to focus on and acknowledge your blessings on a daily basis. When you consciously feel grateful for the abundance that exists in your life, you are bound to feel more love, joy and happiness all around you

This type of journaling is similar to writing in a diary, but one in which you focus on all of the things for which you are grateful each day.

On some days, you may find it a challenge to focus on your blessings, but the more you write in your gratitude journal, the easier it will be to focus on the positive and reflect on the negative things in your life with more perspective.

In addition to writing about the things for which you feel grateful, you may also want to include positive quotes or inspirational sayings that are meaningful to you. You may also want to paste photos or sketches that are related to your positive experiences

This book has 224 pages.
Book measures 228mm X 23mm
Approximately 9" x 8 7/8"
This book is numbered and signed.

COUNTING PAGES:
When I list the number of pages in a book, I am referring to one side of each leaf. For example, in a book with numbered pages, Page 17 would be on one side of the leaf or piece of paper, Page 18 on the other side. Therefore, a book with 224 pages would have 112 leaves.

0015 - The Book of Matthew

I made this book as a gift for my Grand-Daughter when her first baby was born. The idea behind this journal, was, that she can document different parts of his life as he grows, and then give it to him when he turns 18 or 21. But, apparently he mostly draws pictures in it.  The picture on the cover was scanned because I did not have time to actually paint it myself. I did do some modifications on the picture, and added the text naming Chantelle as the author of the book. The book title is "The book of Matthew"

I made this journal / scrapbook for my daughter for her birthday ... Wendy likes things that look old and she also wanted wood covers. This is a big book and quite heavy and thick.. Compare the size of it with a normal size journal on the same table. The book below fits inside the center part of the table with room to spare.  Wendy's book would fill the whole center part.

It took a whole seven days to complete. The covers are made with 19mm thick pine wood offcuts which are stained. There are over 1,300 handmade beads in the tassels that are attached to the spine. Each page was individually antiqued with lemon juice and tea. The edges of each page were also individual torn to give jagged rough edges. Each page was heated with an iron to bring out the antique tones from the acid in the lemon juice and tea. .

My ironing board which was due to have its padding or covering renewed is now completely stuffed-up with stains ... no excuses now, before I iron anything else the cover has to be replaced.
